A Case Study in Utility Network-Planning Alternatives
Abstract - PacifiCorp has a 200mile, 25kV distribution feeder near Moab in Utah. Increasing load at the end of the line has lead to voltage regulation problems. Several potential solutions were examined including conventional planning options such as line reinforcement, additional lines, substation upgrades and increased reactive compensation. PacifiCorp also evaluated the use of energy storage as an alternative.
This proved to be the most economically attractive solution resulting in the installation of a 350kVa VRB-ESS rated at 2000kWh. -
